OCR (Optical Character Recognition) fonts are designed for reading by both computer systems and humans. There are three OCR fonts available; OCR-A and OCR-B are the most commonly used. OCR-A is easier for computers to read but can be slow and difficult for humans. OCR-B is the other way round: humans can read it easily as it's more like a conventional script. But it's not as easy for computers; it is closer to the limits of the OCR specification and so more demanding on the computer. MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) characters are used at the bottom of bank checks. Characters are printed in special magnetic ink which permits them to be read by a magnetic scanner. Numerals are readable by humans but the other characters are just bars. This font contains all fourteen characters listed in the MICR specification. Like all EFF fonts, these fonts are designed to the highest standards which, when used correctly, means you get error free scanning. EFF OCR-APrice: This font costs $18 US (plus VAT in Europe).
