What are TrueType and PostScript fonts?

Please note that these fonts are suitable only for Windows machines, not the Macintosh.

Value for Money fonts are available in TrueType format only. Most Professional fonts are available in both formats so you can purchase the format best suited for your requirements. (When we add fonts to our range, they are usually available in PostScript format first. TrueType format follows later.)

But what's the difference between the two formats?

TrueType fonts

+ You can use these fonts on any PC. All versions of Windows support TrueType fonts as standard.
- If your printer doesn't have an equivalent font, then printed documents may differ from how they appear on screen.

PostScript fonts

Also known as Type 1 fonts or ATM fonts.
+ You can use the same font in your PostScript printer. This means the printout looks the same as you see on screen. This is particularly important for work going to a service (typesetting) bureau.
- Except for Windows NT, 2000 and XP, you need an extra program called Adobe Type Manager (or ATM for short.) You can get ATM from PC dealers.
